Greenland is a vast land in the Arctic circle, lying north-east of the continent of North America, from which it is completely separated by the sea.
This island is almost entirely covered by a thick sheet of ice or “inlandsis” (81% of the surface of Greenland), ending on the coasts, almost everywhere very steep, in long glaciers from which the largest icebergs floating on the seas detach themselves.
